False Teaching
2 Timothy 4:1-5 “I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of
Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and
His kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke,
exhort, with great patience and instruction. For the time will come when they will not
endure sound doctrine; but wanting
to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in
accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears
from the truth and will turn aside to myths. But you, be
sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill
your ministry.” (Highlighting mine)
Oh
– I love this passage. It was once read over me as a prophesy.
Well
now – where to start? The Lord just brought me to this passage once again. It
is one I know well and I believe it is a word for all of us right now. “For the time will come when they
will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting
to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in
accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears
from the truth and will turn aside to myths.” Is this not a
statement of exactly where the Church is headed right now. False doctrine
abounds. Spin doctoring of the Gospel has turned it into a powerless gospel.
There are so many false teachings at the moment that we really need to know and
understand scripture.
Here is my list of ‘top false teachings’ – it’s a
personal list and it’s just my opinion.
Once saved always saved – A very contentious one to
start with. My view, and it’s only my view, is that even though once saved,
there is a degree of back-sliding when we simply give it back. Like when a once-Christian
becomes a Christ-hating atheist or follower of another faith.
Hyper Grace – anything goes. This particular very
recent teaching really is a deception of the enemy. The Bible clearly teaches
that Grace is extended when we demonstrate the fruit of a life-changing
encounter with Jesus Christ. It is not grace to cover anything we care to do
which is outside God’s teaching, but grace to help us become more like Jesus
every day.
Replacement theology forsaking Israel is a teaching
for which I can find no possible teaching in God’s Word. We are not, and never
will be, God’s chosen replacement for His people. The Jewish nation, Israel,
always was and always will remain the apple of God’s eye.
A Watered down Gospel without repentance is simply
a very poor replacement for the full Gospel of repentance, forgiveness, and
salvation through the atoning sacrifice of Christ’s blood at Calvary.
No
devil, no hell – This apostate teaching emanates from some Church theologians
who really have imposed their own logic and learning on top of God’s given
Word. I once heard a preacher say that if we had a little less theology and a
little more Calvary, then Christianity would benefit enormously. A clear case
of not accepting Christ with ‘child-like faith’ but of over thinking what God
has done with our learning and our own motives.
Christians
can’t have a demon – Another thorny one. Christians cannot have a demonic
spirit in their spirit as that is where Holy Spirit lives in us. However there
is plenty of room for such spirits in the flesh or on their soul. We frequently
create soul ties which can only be broken by repentance and renunciation.
The
Prosperity gospel – or the gospel of greed. The name it and claim it religion –
otherwise called ‘blab it and grab it’. Another teaching of the enemy aimed at
deceiving God’s people by seducing them with greed.
The
teaching of Chrislam – that Christianity and Islam can share their faith. No no
no no no. At least not without Jesus and that is the only way Islam will accept
us.
Well,
those are my views and I don’t much mind if you disagree except that you may
have wandered off the narrow way onto the wide and easy way.
