Always Enough
Jesus
isn’t the only one in the Bible to ‘stretch’ the food supply. In Matthew 14 we
find the story of Jesus feeding the crowd with just five loaves and two fish.
Elisha did something similar in 2 Kings 4;42-44 “A man came from Baal Shalishah, bringing the man of God twenty loaves
of barley bread baked from the first ripe grain, along with some heads of new
grain. “Give it to the people to eat,” Elisha said. “How can I set this before a hundred men?” his
servant asked. But Elisha answered, “Give it to the people to eat. For this is
what the LORD says: ‘They will eat and have some left over.’” Then he set it before them, and they ate and
had some left over, according to the word of the LORD. “
When
God is around, there is always enough. In Rolland & Heidi Baker’s book,
“There is Always enough”, we read story after story of God’s miraculous provision.
Why do you think one of the names of God in scripture is Jehovah Jireh – God
our Provider. Yet He is not only our provider. He is teacher, leader, advisor,
mentor, friend, Father, Creator, and many more. Jesus even said in Matthew
28:18-20 “Then Jesus
came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on
earth has been given to me. Therefore
go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and
teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you
always, to the very end of the age.” With that one word “GO”, He gave that
God-given authority to us, too.
I
wonder how long it will take for Christians to realise their inheritance in
Christ? Provision is just one part of it. When will we realise just who we
really are in Christ? How many times do we need to see God’s power in our lives
before we realise exactly what is happening? After that, I wonder how long it
will take before we realise the authority we have in Jesus Name. When will Holy
Spirit’s role finally be recognised and acknowledged in our lives and in our
churches?
We
live and worship God in a powerless church. In literally thousands of churches
all over the world, there is no recognition of anything other than Jesus’ death
and resurrection for our sins. The rest of our inheritance is simply glossed
over. It is ignored because we are ignorant of the facts, or we do not believe
what the Word of God tells us, or we think that our services on Sunday is all
there is to it. A sort of ‘come and be forgiven for another week club’.
How
can the Church have so lost its way? Lost its inheritance and its heritage? And
lost its purpose? Surely, it is now up to us to demonstrate the power of the
Gospel in our lives and our meetings – with signs and wonders following? There
is so much that is worth saving – if only for those who follow us through the
narrow gate and down the narrow path.
Of
those who have preceded us, too many have been so led astray that I fear they are
not even saved, despite a lifetime of church attendance. They are not even
aware that they can have a personal relationship with Jesus or even that He is
the only way to the Father.
Yet,
there is always enough. Enough time to tell them. Enough grace and mercy for
them to turn and truly follow Him. Enough provision for their new journey. On
this journey, five small loaves and two little fishes can go a very long way
indeed.
