House Moving
As many of you know, Linda and I have only been married since last November, and we have only been in our house for just over a month. We worried about where we should live when we arrived at my old apartment. It really was ‘too small to swing a cat’ – being 520 square feet and it had 2 bedrooms !! It was astonishing how much we had packed into that little place. Yet it was our first home and, for a while, it was sufficient.
So when our lease came up for renewal, we thought about it; we prayed, and we thought about it some more. The real trouble was the cost of anything even a little bit bigger. Still – we felt the Lord telling us to move so we started hunting. There was nothing, and I mean absolutely not a single thing, within 100 miles that was even remotely affordable. So we looked further afield.
A good friend had moved from very expensive Surrey, where we lived, to a very much smaller, quieter, rural town about 150 miles away. Linda found her ‘perfect country hideaway’ at a very reasonable cost so we booked a viewing. We also booked several other viewings for the weekend and let our friends know that we were coming. They immediately scrapped any plans they had for that weekend and offered us the hospitality of their home.
I want to tell you that when God moves and He decides that you need to move, then He does things seemingly impossible to facilitate that move. God wanted us in that town. We went, we saw, we offered, and the agent called the owner and had it taken off the market there and then. Anyone who has moved home knows that just is NOT normal – it doesn’t happen – unless, of course, God puts His hand on it.
We went up first week in May. We went for a confirming visit two weeks later in mid-May. On June 1st we paid the money and collected our new house keys. All at a 40% saving over our old place !! Did we have a miracle? You’d better believe we did.
The next miracle was that we had asked the Lord that, wherever He took us, could we please find a good church there ??? Well you can guess what happened can’t you? We found ourselves made lovingly welcome by an absolutely super church in the town. Led by a world famous praise and worship leader/pastor who had built what I would say is one of the most loving leadership teams and loving church either of us has ever had the pleasure and privilege of attending.
Does God still do miracles today – YES.
Does He have a purpose for each and every one of us – YES.
Has He got a plan for your life too – YES and it’s a perfect plan just for you.
Don’t ever give up on God – He has His eyes and His mighty hand on you all the time – even when you don’t realise it.
God not only gave us a new home, but wonderful friends in Ted and Sue who have shown us true, Christian hospitality. Then on top of all of that...He gave us great neighbors! He's so good to us!
