The Relevance of Deliverance Ministry for Today’s Church
We come now to a topic that is still so very controversial in today’s church. This is one of Satan’s greatest lies. It has always been controversial, inside the church and out, and probably it always will be controversial. Ask any congregation if a Christian can have a demon and you will, in over 90% of all churches, be told emphatically ‘NO’. That answer is, I am sorry to say, mis-informed RUBBISH !! I am deliberately being hard here because of the woeful lack of understanding and proper teaching within the Church in general.
A Christian cannot have a demon in his or her spirit because that is where the Holy Spirit lives within us and a demonic spirit cannot exist alongside holiness just as dark cannot exist where there is light. Just as light banishes darkness, so the Holy Spirits presence within our spirit banishes anything unholy – including demons. However, any Christian can have a demon in his or her soul or flesh because flesh exists in the world and the world is the princedom of Satan. Therefore, demons have legal rights to exist in the world and in our flesh unless we deal with them. THAT is called deliverance ministry.
God’s Word quite clearly tells us to ‘cast out demons’, ergo – it therefore follows that – demons exist and are very real. In deliverance ministry, we have to be so very careful because, although Jesus says that whatever we bind on earth will be bound in heaven and therefore we can bind demons, He also tells us that we cannot cast out of a dirty house.
Matthew 12:43-46 (NKJV) “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.”
Put another way, we cannot cast out a demon from a person who does not have the Holy Spirit in him or the demon will return with seven of his mates, each more powerful that the one we tried to cast out in the first place.
Despite all of this, the Western Church has so belittled the deliverance ministry that it is riddled with demonic activity – and it is happy to be so. So is Satan. We really need, right now, a powerful deliverance ministry in each church. Instead, we have leading and respected theologians stating, from the pulpit, that Satan may even be a figment of our imagination !! How’s that for arrogant ignorance – or devil’s advocacy?
So, to answer my own question – YES, deliverance ministry is relevant to today’s church. Not just relevant but essential that deliverance and discernment ministries be side by side in every church in our land.
