“3:16”
There has always been
something about those two numbers - 3:16. I suppose it came from the emphasis
given over the years to John 3:16. How often do we go to any type of ball game
on either side of the Atlantic and see someone in the crowd holding up a large
sign that simply says “3:16”. Then I started recently noticing that the same numbers
come up elsewhere with important, quotable scriptures. I listed them all in the
New Testament and selected these few for your entertainment, edification, and
hopefully, amazement that these numbers should mean so very much in the life of
a Christian.
Matthew 3:16 When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and
behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending
like a dove and alighting upon Him.
Mark 3 16 Simon, to whom He gave the name Peter; (the
Rock on whom He built the church)
Luke 3 16 John
answered, saying to all, “I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier
than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize
you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
John 3 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His
only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have
everlasting life.
1 cor 3 16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God
and that the Spirit of God
dwells in you?
2 cor 3 16 Nevertheless
when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
Eph 3 16 that
He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened
with might through His Spirit in the inner man,
Col 3 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all
wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual
songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
2 thess 3 16 Now
may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all.
1 tim 3 16 And
without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in
the flesh, Justified in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Preached among the
Gentiles, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory.
2 tim 3 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for
instruction in righteousness,
James 3 16 For
where envy and self-seeking exist,
confusion and every evil thing are
there.
1 peter 3 16 having
a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile
your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed.
1 john 3 16 By
this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to
lay down our lives for the
brethren.
Rev 3 16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and
neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.
Had
to include that last one – it’s a warning to us all.
