More Shaking
We read or hear daily about earthquakes and the resultant tsunamis. I even read yesterday that the entire Pacific Rim is showing signs of imminent eruption. Times were when the media would report virtually any tremor no matter how small. Now, an earthquake of less than 5.0 on the Richter Scale doesn’t even get a footnote mention on the news – there currently seems to be an earthquake of at least 6.0 or higher every day.
We are also hearing about storms and tornadoes throughout America. There were confirmed reports, just last week, of 17 tornadoes sweeping through the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex in one day. The real miracle there was that not one single death was reported. Media coverage showed the power of these storms as huge 18-wheelers were shown being tossed around like toys – yet no-one was seriously hurt. Thank God. March through to June is often referred to as “Tornado Season”, yet there have been more storms reported this year than ever before making this year a truly exceptional year for natural phenomena like earthquake and storm throughout the USA. One report we read today claimed that the earth is literally shaking.
This is getting quite disquieting - so what is going on?
There are at least 68 references to the words shake or shaken in the Word of God and almost all of these refer to events in the future. From what I have seen, the most frequently used scripture is this one from Hebrews 12:26-28 (NIV1984) “At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe.”
What is happening in these present days appears to be the shaking referred to in this passage. Other passages also refer to the shaking of the nations.
Psalm 99:1 “The LORD reigns, let the nations tremble; he sits enthroned between the cherubim, let the earth shake.”
Isaiah 30:28 “His breath is like a rushing torrent, rising up to the neck. He shakes the nations in the sieve of destruction; he places in the jaws of the peoples a bit that leads them astray.”
Haggai 2:7 “I will shake all nations, and the desired of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the LORD Almighty.”
Maybe it is the last of these, Haggai 2:7, which most people use to describe the shaking of the present church and the emergent end-times church that will appear from within the end-times revival. It is my belief that this is what is presently happening. The earth is being shaken and that which is not founded upon Godly principles or not being performed in a godly manner will begin to fall. Perhaps this is what is happening in the Western Church, particularly in America, right now.
God is shaking everything that can be shaken and only that which is unshakeable will be left undamaged. The U.N., individual countries, governments, banks, corporations, ministries, churches, individuals, you, and me – we will all be shaken. That which is godly will remain intact. Everything else will be shaken and the damaged bits removed. It seems to me to be a part of the great tribulation getting set up ready. If the Rapture is indeed going to happen and if that does happen before the tribulation, then surely the signs are becoming very obvious.
Matthew 25:1-13 “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep. “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’ “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’ “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. “Later the others also came. ‘Sir! Sir!’ they said. ‘Open the door for us!’ “But he replied, ‘I tell you the truth, I don’t know you.’ “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour. “
