Church Today
Saw
this on Facebook today – “If Churches
were truly "Seeker Friendly" "Seeker Sensitive" they would
not be structured like they are today with Attractions and Programs to attract
the spectators but it would be a "House of Worship" with no clocks or
restraints. It would be a place filled with cries of Repentance and Stained
filled Altars!” What truth there is in this simple sentence.
If
only we could be more like this. If only we had a little more confidence in our
heavenly Father, then we might know something more of the drawing power of His
precious Holy Spirit. Why on earth do we feel the need to attract people to
church? Is God not able to attract them to Himself without our ‘help’? If we
need to advertise all our programs and ‘specials’, then our church is falling
short somewhere down the line. If we don’t naturally attract people and grow,
then the Holy Spirit isn’t doing His job – because we don’t allow Him to do so.
The
very thought our church being a house of worship without clocks or restraints
might fill some with horror, but it excites the socks off of me. When we finally
learn to free up Holy Spirit and allow Him to move as He wants, rather than as we
want, then we may see an end to all the clock watching and scheduling that most
of us seem to so delight in. Our worship is the key to everything. When we let
go of the old menu of a song and prayer sandwich and cater for a gourmet
session of pure praise and worship – allowing Holy Spirit to lead – then we may
just see happy diners at our table. Until then, the clock watchers and the
controllers have the field.
It
is time to get serious about this because time may be shorter than you think.
