Are You In Focus?
We
are always being urged to “stay focussed”. In our walk with God, we are urged
to have a focus for our life, have a focus on our family, our job, our
children, even to have a focus on our spouse. With so many things to focus on,
it’s no wonder we sometimes lose our focus isn’t it?
Yet
Jesus didn’t say to focus on anything but God. He says, in Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all
these things shall be added to you.” So, I wonder, why do we need to focus
so sharply on certain things. Surely we can only focus on one thing at a time.
If that one thing is God’s Kingdom, then surely we don’t need to focus on
anything else.
Focussing
on God’s Kingdom and His will for our lives will cause us to look at our life,
our family, our job, our children and our spouse and consider them in the light
of God’s Word. To focus upon them means, literally, to concentrate upon them to
the exclusion of all else. Why would we concentrate so hard on anything that
causes us to ignore what God is saying about that thing.
Jesus
reminds us in Matthew 7:7-8 to “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and
it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who
seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” In other
words God ha
Jeremiah
29:12-14 “Then you will call upon Me and go and pray
to Me, and I will listen to you. And you
will seek Me and find Me, when
you search for Me with all your heart. I
will be found by you, says the Lord.”
That,
surely, is enough for us to actually focus on Jesus as the answer to any
question, any situation. So, rather than focussing on everything around us, let
us focus instead upon seeking God’s face. Not His hand, please note, but His
face – seek God for who He is and not what He is or what He can do for us.
To
paraphrase President Kennedy, “Ask not what God can do for you and your life,
but rather, what you can do for God and His Kingdom.”
