Unanswerable Questions
Who
will be raptured?
Well
we know that those who are alive in Christ will be changed from our mortal
bodies to immortal ones. This implies that we will not leave our body behind
when we go. Interesting thought – how many missing persons reports will that
generate? How many insurance claims will that set off? Will this sudden
disappearance of millions of people completely collapse the worlds monetary
systems? If we do leave our earthly body behind, then there are even more
questions.
Then
what about babies, born or unborn, and what about little children who have not
reached an age where they can decide for themselves about Jesus? What about
those children in non-Christian lands who have never heard of Jesus? In the
case of unborn babies, does this mean that mothers will all lose their unborn
babies?
Then
we come to the question of those who have already died in Christ being
resurrected first? Why? If they died in Christ, then they will have their new
immortal bodies already and will already be in heaven – yes/no??
We
are “quite reliably” told that Holy Spirit will be withdrawn at the rapture.
Yet surely He will still have work to do here among those who will be saved in
the tribulation period of seven years? Maybe His work as restrainer will cease
but His work as convicter and teacher will still be operational?
Utterly
fascinating.
OK
– I know what the Bible says, and I believe it, but it’s the unanswered
questions that fascinate me. When you follow the logic through – that’s when it
gets very complex. Yet a friend of mine has it just about right. He takes the
following stance on end-times - Is the rapture happening now? No – then there
is still work to be done without worrying about what and when it’s all going to happen. We’ll find
that out soon enough.
Puts
it all into context quite nicely I think.
