Where are the Servants?
I
wish I were gifted enough to have originated some of those little life quotes
you see dotted around Facebook and Twitter. Sadly, I am not one thus gifted but
here is one from Kevin Hall, an author, who wrote these inspired words
“Your gifts are not about YOU
Leadership is not about
YOU
Your purpose is not about
YOU
A Life of significance is
about SERVING those who need your gifts, your leadership, or your purpose.”
We
are told to “eagerly seek the gifts” of the Holy Spirit. (1 Cor 12:31) Why? Because
- 1 Corinthians 2:4 “ . . . . . in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,”
The Holy Spirits gifts are not for you alone. They are for you to serve the
church and to enable you to demonstrate the presence, power, and reality of
Holy Spirit. The manifestation of the gifts is not an indication of your
suitability to have them, it is so you may serve the people around you by
exercising them. It is to edify the church and encourage the people.
Likewise,
no position of leadership is about you, nor any other individual. It is all
about serving those you lead by demonstrating and leading by example so that
those you lead may learn from you.
Your
purpose is all about the fulfilment of God’s purpose for you not about you
personally. Your purpose is to do the will of He who created you. Your purpose
is to serve others by serving God and His will and purposes.
Did
you notice the words “serve” or “service” came up a few times there? I wonder,
where are all the servants of God? Do you know, I’ve never met a true servant
of God who is afraid or scared of anything men may do to them. I have never met
one yet who is afraid to lose face or even afraid to lose position or respect.
Their only wish is to serve the God they love – and in every case, His hand is
upon them with great power and might because they unhesitatingly give Him ALL
the Glory.
How
many pastors and leaders need to be served by their flock, rather than serving
their flock? How many actually demand to be served? Where are all the servant
hearted men and women of God? Where have they gone? Perhaps the greatest call
on anyone’s life is to serve God and His people in leadership – to be a
shepherd and a servant to the people of God.
Maybe,
for some leaders and pastors, it is time for some turning away from the wide
and easy path and back onto the narrow one again. You used to tread that path
but fear of men, uncertainty of position, and worldly problems have caused you
to take the easy way.
I
hear God calling to you once again. Will you answer Him?
