Neglecting the Holy Spirit
What
is it that has so convinced so many churches and so very many Christians to
ignore, dismiss, or even demonise God’s Holy Spirit? The manifestation of Him
in your life can get you branded demonic, or apostate, or belonging to a cult.
John
3:5 Jesus answered, "I tell you the
truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the
Spirit.”
Born
of the Spirit?
Luke
3:16 “John answered them all, “I baptize
you with water. But one more powerful than I will come, the thongs of whose
sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and
with fire.” Baptised with the Holy Spirit?
John
16:12-14 “I have much more to say to you,
more than you can now bear. But when he,
the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak
on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet
to come. He will bring glory to me by
taking from what is mine and making it known to you.”
The
Spirit of Truth?
Acts
2:1-4 “When the day of Pentecost came,
they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent
wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire
that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit
and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”
As
the Spirit enabled them?
Acts
8:17 “Then Peter and John placed their
hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.”
Received
the Holy Spirit?
Hmmm
– These scriptures tell me, without any shadow of a doubt, that we are supposed
to cultivate a relationship with Holy Spirit. In fact, in order for us to
operate properly as Christians, we cannot operate without the Holy Spirit to
help us. As it has been said, quite correctly, the Christian who neglects the
Holy Spirit is like a lamp that is not plugged in.
Yet
there are seemingly numbers of otherwise good Christians who know little or
nothing about Holy Spirit apart from His Name, and who have little or no idea
of who He is, and why He is. He is, to them, something or someone who helped
launch the church 2000 years ago but who no longer has any relevance in today’s
church or world.
Wake
up Church. Wake up Christians. Holy Spirit was sent to help us minute by
minute, hour by hour, day by day. He was sent to be our friend, and our teacher
and guide. He was NOT sent just to launch the 1st Century Church, He
was sent for all of us, every day until Jesus returns for us. He is for today,
for every second of our lives.
Stop
grieving Him and listen to Him. Allow Him to be in, and to move in your life.
He is the very best friend you could ever have.
John’s
baptism gives you salvation and eternal life. Holy Spirit’s baptism will put
God’s power in your life for ever. Neglect whatever else you want but please
don’t neglect Holy Spirit.
