Jesus Love
There’s
a Gaither song I particularly like –“There
is a river, and it flows from deep within; There is a fountain, that frees the
soul from sin; Come to this water; there is a vast supply; There is a river,
that never shall run dry.” The song reminds me of Jesus love for me, for
you, for all of us.
With
all the sin, wickedness, and hatred that we see in the world, why on earth
would we be so blessed to have a Creator God who still cares so very much for
us? Why would He want anything more to do with us? Why would He not throw up
His hands in anger and anguish and just leave us to our own destructive
devices? Why does He not think that Jesus sacrifice at Calvary was a complete
waste of time?
These
things have never even crossed His mind because of His promise that came with
Jesus that “For God so
loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in
Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son
into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be
saved.
“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not
believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the
only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has
come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their
deeds were evil.” John 3:16-19.
“Whoever believes.” I’m a Whoever. You are another Whoever, We are
ALL Whoever’s.
We
do not have to plead with God as Lot did when he said of Sodom and Gomorrah – “Will
you not spare the city if I can find just 5 just men?” In His infinite wisdom
and mercy God made a way for us. We have to plead for nothing. All we have to
do is accept Jesus as our Saviour ask Him to help us turn ourselves around by
inviting Him into our hearts. It is so simple even a child can do it – and that
is exactly the way God designed it to work.
Faith
is actually so simple yet we have contrived to make it not just complex but
difficult by wrapping faith up in religion. It’s the Pharisee in us still. We
like to put everything in a box but to do that it has to conform to the size
and shape of the box. Trouble is – you can’t put God in a box, which is why
religion fails but child-like faith wins.
This
is what Jesus’ love has done for us. This is the immeasurable extent of His
love that we, whilst we were still sinners, we were chosen by Him. Despite all
our wrongs and faults and foibles, Jesus loves us so much that when He died at
Calvary – a sinless death for the sinful – He opened the doors of heaven wide
open for every single one of us. All we have to do is say, “Yes Lord, I accept
your offer.”
It’s
so simple even a child can do it.
