Danger - Man Thinking

Thinking is dangerous !!

A friend of mine commented on one of the posts in my blog, and this caused me to start thinking. Thinking is always a serious risk in one like me – a half intelligent man with time to spare. His comments raised questions in me of a theological nature, so, being uneducated in the mysteries of theology, I seriously and genuinely asked for comments on this :-

“The Word of God tells us that, on judgement day, we will give account for everything including every word that comes out of our mouths. However the Word also says that when we repent and ask forgiveness for our sins, not only will Father forgive us, but ‘He will remember our sins no more.’ (Hebrews 8:12, Hebrews 10:17, Jeremiah 31:34, Isaiah 43:25) So, if we have repented and been forgiven all our sins, (of omission, of commission, and verbal) and if God has indeed remembered our sins no more, what accounting will we have to do?”

I think it quite funny how we can go through life with one basic conception, one seemingly immovable tenet, and then God comes along and sweeps it all aside and replaces it with, if not exactly understanding, at least a different perspective that forces us to re-think the original idea. God’s perspective is always interestingly and refreshingly different from our own. It is righteous for a start. It is not encumbered with worldly thinking – as ours is. Then it is an eternal perspective and, once we start to look at things with an eternal perspective, then everything changes.

However, let’s have a look at this question again. The way I understand it is this :-

This is one of those fascinating questions because, on the face of things, it might just appear that the Word of God contradicts itself. Is it, then, perhaps saying that God the Father remembers our sins no more but God the Son and God the Holy Spirit do have a record of our sins standing ready for judgement day? Well, that one doesn’t hold water if the Trinity is indeed ONE, and if one of the three does something the other two will be in agreement AND know about it.

I love this explanation I got from a good friend. Many times in the Scriptures we find these hard sayings which, if taken in the entirety, do seem to contradict sense, The best way I have come to marry this concept with what other Scripture says is the fact that we serve a loving God. And that God is truly loving in the sense that every decision he makes for us is not simply to embarrass us or to humiliate but it is to form us and to mould us into better people. In short like Jesus says, to be perfect like our heavenly Father is perfect; to become whole and complete. We cannot hope to do that without His help. And so, when the concept of “Giving account" of our sins as in the great White Throne Judgement and in other places in Scripture...when that is compared to other verses about no tears shed, nothing remembered, etc, I can only plead ignorance as to the true meaning or how it will all be accomplished. However, because our God is a loving God, I also have the confidence that whatever He decides to do will be right and good and just.

Remembering our sin no more is not the same as forgetting them as it would lower God’s own standing if he had a human trait like forgetfulness. So I liken it as a child sitting down with a loving Dad to go over whatever we have done wrong and make sure we understand the ‘rules’ so that we don’t transgress again in future.

You see what I mean when I say that thinking can be oh so dangerous? Hmmm.
