Light at the End of the Tunnel

Tunnel Vision

You feel like you are in a dark tunnel. You can hardly see a thing. Sounds all around you echo eerily and it’s all a little bit spooky. It’s so dark that you could get disoriented quite easily and start heading back the way you just came – back to the problem that drove you to seek hidden-ness in the first place. There seems no solution to your plight so you call upon one last, final resort in the forlorn hope that an answer might be forthcoming.

You pray. Not a long prayer. “Dear God – what do I do now?”

Suddenly, out of the corner of your eye, you spot what looks like a glint or reflection of something. As you walk towards it, it turns out to be a tiny light. Its not a light bulb or anything like that. In fact, it is a tiny shaft of daylight that marks the end of the tunnel.

God is answering your prayer.

I heard it once said that when God wants your attention, He grabs hold of your finances. I also heard, several times in fact, that Jehovah-Jireh, God my provider, is still in business. Contrary to the current opinion held by the majority of people, God does still provide for His people. However, despite all the testimonies, despite all the rock solid evidence of His provision, most people don’t believe it. Why? Because they have never had to experience the depths of desperation that lead us to pray that very short prayer - “Dear God – what do I do now?”, and they have never had to experience the God of provision working in their lives.

Thankfully, the vast majority of Christians in the Western Church have never had their faith tested in this way. On a personal note, I was in a very volatile industry and I was laid off NINE times over the years. This played havoc with my pension savings and all but ruined them. Yet, looking back, although I was jobless for quite serious lengths of time, about 7-8 years in all, we always had enough. Eventually, we discovered that we owed the mortgage company hugely more than we thought, But, even then, we had enough equity in our house to get by. Only just, but we got by. God our provider had been working for us all along.

Eventually, we get to the present and things don’t look very good - again. Yet in our service at church this morning, after we have been praying to Jehovah-Jireh once again, God let us know that He has His hand on us. There is light at the end of the tunnel. We have suddenly developed, if not tunnel vision, at least vision in the tunnel. My faith and hopes are lifted once again. My wife is even a little bit “I told you so” triumphant. LOL

If you are in a similar situation right now, pray that short prayer, “Dear God – what do I do now?” You will very soon discover that God is good – all the time. Jehovah-Jireh is still “God our provider”.

  1. wow...have you been right on lately, or what? :) He does have his hand on us, but that is where contentment comes in....if we are content with the Manna is provides - our "daily bread," then we can see his blessings more easily, can't we?
