Real or Fake
There
have been many analogies of the God-head, the Trinity. Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit are the same one God. The best analogy I have seen is the Ice, Water,
and Steam description of God. You see Ice is still water. Water is still water.
Steam is still water. All three are water but in different states. So it is
with Father Son and Holy Spirit – they are all God but in different aspects of
Him.
However,
whichever way you care to look at them, water, ice, and steam are all still the
same basic water. However, fakes are available for all three. Take soda for
example. It looks like water. It tastes a bit like water although a bit fizzy,
and it flows and moves and behaves like water. Yet it’s not water. It’s almost
the same with ice and steam. Dry ice is hard and very cold, just like ice. Dry
ice, if you leave it alone, also gives off large volumes of steam, again, just
like water except that it is cold and not hot. So, soda and dry-ice both look
like water, both behave like ice and steam. But they are both fakes.
It
is very easy to mistake one for the other when you see them. However, after a
little investigation, the false thing can easily be distinguished from the real
thing. So it is with God. Whatever we do, as new or experienced Christians, is
always discouraged by the enemy. Having said that, whatever we do is never
discouraged by God.
In
whatever role we see God being, Satan has a false or counterfeit version
waiting to deceive us. We are told to be discerning. To discern whether we hear
God the Father’s voice or a deceiver. To discern whether it is Jesus guiding us
or a deceiver. To discern whether or not the manifestations we see are of Holy
Spirit or of a deceiver.
Of
course discernment takes time to learn; it takes a good knowledge of God in all
three roles; a recognition of His voice; a consistency with scripture, and so
on. This is why older mature Christians can be of such value to the church – as
nurturers and mentors; as encouragers too.
Don’t
ever be afraid or ashamed to seek help in discerning the truth from the false.
God certainly doesn’t mind your questions and neither should we.
