This
is a short mini-series on the truths and beauty of some of my favourite hymns.
I have chosen five hymns – four old and one new – that simply speak to me.
There are many others and I am sure your choice may be very different from
mine. Here is my second choice.
This
hymn about our Creator and Saviour God, was originally a poem written by Carl
Gustav Boberg and popularised in the early Billy Graham crusades by George
Beverley Shea and Cliff Burrows. I very rarely use this word, but, to me, this
hymn is simply awesome.
Lord my God! When I in
awesome wonder
Consider all the works
thy hand hath made,
I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder,
I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder,
Thy power throughout the
universe displayed;
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how
great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how
great Thou art!
And when I think that God his son not sparing,
And when I think that God his son not sparing,
Sent him to die - I
scarce can take it in,
That on the cross my burden gladly bearing,
That on the cross my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take
away my sin:
When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home- what
joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in
humble adoration
And there proclaim, my
God, how great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how
great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how
great Thou art!
