Convenience Church?

Ready to Serve

How many times do we go to the store to buy a “Ready to Serve” meal? It is convenience food that needs little or no preparation. Just a minute in the microwave or even “delicious eaten cold”.

Sounds a bit like one or two of our churches to me. Quick service. Quick offering. Quick sermon. Quick ‘salvation’. Quick sinners prayer. Quick coffee afterwards. Chuck ‘em out. Get the next lot in. Do it all over again. Gotta keep the production line rolling. Convenience church.

Whatever happened to real church?

Whatever happened to allowing the Holy Spirit to work?

Whatever happened to discipling the flock?

Today’s busy, busy lifestyle means less time to do everything. Certainly less time to do anything the way we’re supposed to. There’s no time to do anything properly so we just rush it and probably ruin it too.

God gave us one day a week to relax and enjoy Him. He didn’t give us that day to fill with so much busy-ness that we either don’t have time for Him or so we can omit Him altogether.

We seem to have lost our purpose in the church – which is to serve. Jesus said that “the first must be last and the last must be first”. He also said that, in order to lead, a leader must be a servant to all. Where have all the servants gone? We certainly don’t see much servanthood in many churches. Rather we see the church serving their leader. Everything is about faced - the meek and the lowly are serving the leadership.

We simply need to grasp the truth about servanthood and apply it to ourselves rather than expecting others to do it. Jesus came as a servant to all – look at the effect He had on our civilisation.  Compare that to the present ‘served’ church.

Kinda makes the point doesn’t it?
