Ironing
out the wrinkles
It’s
funny sometimes how God pops a phrase into your mind. Take tonight, for
example, we had our third Alpha course session. It was good and some good
questions came from the people in our team.
After we got back home the Lord said quite clearly that we had been “ironing
out some wrinkles” tonight. My mind immediately went to a tumble drier and the
wrinkled state that my washing used to end up in after using the drier. Then
the Lord surprised me with these ‘ideas’ for me to think about.
1
He is Ironing out the wrinkles of life – It’s true, a relationship with Jesus
is the springboard to letting Him iron some if not all the wrinkles of life. It
happens as we open each door of our life to Him. He comes into that room and,
being holy, the unholy that is in there can no longer stay so He throws it out
and slowly all the little wrinkles get ironed out smoothly.
2
He is ironing out the wrinkles of faith – It is also true that Jesus slowly but
surely answers all our doubting questions of faith. It’s not that we don’t have
faith because we do. But our faith is limited and has to grow as our experience
of Jesus grows.
3
He is ironing out the wrinkles in the Bride – Jesus is also preparing His Bride
to be spotless, pure, and holy. There are many wrinkles to be ironed out but
everything going on in the world and in the church at the moment indicates that
the Lord is preparing His Bride. He is making her more pure, more holy, more
ready for His return.
On
a lighter note, as a retiree or senior, we get concessionary prices for bits
and pieces like entry to events or attractions. It is my habit to ask for “Two
wrinklies please”. This always raises a smile from the staff and a pinch from
my wife. However, as we are still works in progress that the Lord is still
working to bring up to His standard, perhaps we are all stained and wrinkled.
Maybe wrinklies is a title for all of us?
