Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace

Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace

The death of a dream is often a subtle form of idolatry. We lose faith in the God who gave us the big dream and settle for a small dream that we can accomplish without His help. We go after dreams that don't require divine intervention. We go after dreams that don't require prayer.” Mark Batterson, Circle Maker

Two quotes for you today. One is taken from the Anglican marriage service. The other is a somewhat piercing truth observed for us all to note, ponder,  and take on board.

I often hear that God has given someone a vision for something, but all too often, what we see as the outworking of that vision falls some way short of the original. This causes me to question if the original vision was from God or was it from the vision-holder’s imagination? Did God really say that or did He give us something less and did we then set our imagination to work on His plans?

When we have a dream or a vision and we believe that it is from God, we also have to believe that God will help us achieve all that He has placed in our hearts. However, it is also incumbent upon us to seek His help in order to do so. Without that help we will surely fail and reduce God’s envisioning of us to the limitations of our own abilities to succeed rather than bringing Him the Glory by allowing Him to work through us in order to bring that vision to full fruition.

The vision becomes our idol and we sacrifice it to our own limitations of finance, capability, and willingness to persevere. Truly, when God gives us a vision,  we need to wrestle with Him until He releases that vision through us. We need to claim it and intercede for it. We need to pray it into existence – the way God wants it rather than the way our limited capabilities will settle for.

That is what fulfilling visions is all about. So if you are worried about your ability to achieve that which God has placed before you, then please, forever hold your peace. However, if you are prepared to battle through the opposition and apparent “forest of weeds” that are determined to stop you succeeding, then now is the time to speak – speak to God and speak to the mountains. Speak to the problems and tell them how big your God is rather than telling God how big the problems are.

The fruitfulness that God looks for in us does not come from any natural ability that we might have in ourselves, but from loving and intimate communion with Christ Himself. The message is clear: Stop striving: get intimate with him and start feeding from his word. The fruit will emerge…” Alan Hoare

Got a vision from God? Then speak now or forever hold your peace!
