There are Days

There are Days . . . .

Lev 26:19 “I will make your heavens like iron and your earth like brass.”

There are days when heaven seems to be like iron and the ground we walk seems like brass. Days when God seems to be absent from us; when we seem to be walking alone; when our prayers, our cries, and our pleas seem to just go out into thin air and evaporate like water on a sunny day. Yet God hears every word we speak and every thought we think.

Sometimes, perhaps when He is refining us a little, He chooses not to answer. Sometimes, perhaps when we are too tired or distracted, we choose not to listen very hard. Sometimes we just shut Him out for whatever reason. God is always “there”, whatever we may think.

Like Elijah, we may suddenly hear His voice saying, “What are you doing here?” Like Elijah, we may struggle for an answer. We need to turn our thoughts outwards instead of concentrating inwards, on ourselves. We need to be seeking God’s face instead of His hand. We need to simply obey rather than question everything He says.

When heaven is iron and earth is brass, seek God Himself first. No need to tell Him what’s wrong or what you think you need or want – He knows that already. Consider dandelions and poppies, some of the most prolific flowers in the wild. All they do is dance their simple worship in the breeze before the Lord and He prospers them. How much more will He prosper you when you simply delight yourself in His presence.

When heaven is iron and earth is brass, as the song says, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face, And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of His glory and grace.”

When heaven is iron and earth is brass cry out, as a Gaither song says, “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, There's just something about that Name. Master, Saviour, Jesus, Like the fragrance after the rain. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Let all heaven and earth proclaim, Kings and kingdoms all will pass away, But there's something about that Name.”

God is always near, we just have to seek Him. He almost pulls the veil back so we can enter His presence easier. As with the father in the story of the prodigal son, when we step towards Him, He will run towards us with open arms.
