The Land
Mourns
Hosea 4:1-2 “Hear the word of the Lord, you Israelites, because the Lord has a charge to bring against
you who live in the land: “There is no faithfulness, no love, no
acknowledgment of God in the land. There is only cursing, lying
and murder, stealing and adultery; they break all bounds, and bloodshed
follows bloodshed. Because of this, the land mourns . . . . ”
Has the Lord the same charge to bring against your
land today? I think He does against my land so I think He has against your land
too. This scripture applies as much today, for our lands, as it did when the
prophet spoke it and wrote it all down.
That’s and odd phrase isn’t it – “the land mourns”?
Does our land mourn because of all the sin
committed within her boundaries? Does our land mourn because of the pollution
of her spiritual condition caused by the sin? I don’t think so. To me, our land
mourns because Christ no longer reigns among His people there. The power of God
is no longer manifest there. Godly principles are cast aside and the result is
an unprincipled people who care less for their condition than they do for the
inheritance they will leave for their children and their children’s children.
This is what Jesus spoke about when the Pharisees called for his disciples to
be silent. This is what happens when the church stays silent. The land mourns.
Luke
19:39-40 “Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to
Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!” “I tell you,” he replied, “If they keep quiet, the stones
will cry out.”
Is our land mourning, crying out for the lack of
those willing to speak out in the name and for the name of Jesus? Is our land
mourning? “Tears may endure for a night
but joy comes in the morning.” Psalm 30:5
There is a time coming when the stones will
rejoice; when they will cry out with joy rather than mourning. There is coming
a time when righteous voices will fearlessly proclaim the Name of the Lord –
King of Kings and Lord of Lords. There is coming a time when to love the Lord
our God with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our mind; and to
love our neighbour as ourselves will actually come naturally to us as we become
the church rather than just trying to look like we are.
The days of mourning are limited for joy and praise and
worship are coming.
