I am who it says I am

I am who it says I am

I am not a particular fan of Joel Osteen but I do like what he says at the beginning of each service

“This is my Bible
I am who it says I am
I have what it says I have
I can do what it says I can do”

This is a simple declaration of some of the scriptural promises for all of us. This is not any kind of attempt to find and spell out all the statements and promises – that would take far too long. It is more my take on some of the most important aspects of just some of those promises.

I am who it says I am – I am a child of the King, I am a conqueror, an overcomer. I am a disciple of Jesus Christ because someone in my life at some point spread the Gospel in my direction. I responded by receiving salvation and that made me a disciple just as directed by the great commandment – albeit at the time a very trainee disciple. Time has moved on and I hope I am a bit better disciple than I was. “I am not what I should be. I am not what I want to be. But praise God,  I am not what I used to be.” I heard RT Kendall say that once and it stuck in my heart.

You are the same too.

I have what it says I have – I have Holy Spirit living in me and I exhibit some of the fruit of that indwelling. My Bible tells me that the fruit I have are like this - Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. " What a privilege and a joy to have such fellowship and companionship as Holy Spirit brings to us. To think – my body is a temple for His habitation! Oh who am I that He should consider such as me? Yet He does so with joy and He brings me such joy as He shares fellowship with me.

You have the same too.

I can do what it says I can do – I can heal the sick, cast out demons, and raise the dead – and greater things than these. What a statement and promise. Not only are we called to do these things, not only are we commanded to do them and therefore can do them, BUT greater things than these shall we do! A truly astonishing promise.

And - You can do the same too – and even more.

Doesn’t it just make your heart overflow with love and joy and peace, plus gratitude and praise and worship on top !!! Have you guessed yet – I get all excited by these promises.

Don’t you?
