The Wonder of it All

The Wonder of it All

The Lord has been taking me through what I can only call a series of mini-visions over Easter. Now He is challenging me and I hope I can challenge you too.

What was it really like on that resurrection morning. Can we even begin to imagine the despair and the crushed hope turning first to incredulity and later to total joy. All at the dawning realisation that what He claimed might actually be true, then in the wondrous first meeting and confirmation that it was – it really was – true. There before their eyes and for them to touch stood Jesus. Recently crucified, certified dead, buried and sealed in a tomb – here He is standing among us talking to us – proving to Thomas that it really was Him.

Oh the wonder and awe of it all. What faith must have been generated in those meetings – only to be totally surpassed at Pentecost. Such excitement as the mind can barely comprehend. Such was the joy of the disciples at their own salvation and so it should be for us too. The realisation of what our Saviour went through for us; what He achieved in so doing; and all that it now means for us 2000 years later.

Can any of us imagine what He felt like to carry the weight of every sin in His atoning sacrifice? Can we imagine the relief when He cried out, “It is finished.” Can we then imagine how much Satan must have taunted Him while He was being flogged, mocked, and crucified. The questions are endless but the net result is still an astonishing act of God’s love for us in order to save us from ourselves and from Satan.

Finally, we are left with the overwhelming feeling of awe and gratitude that He should have done all of that for you and me.  It’s a jigsaw of imaginings. Each piece a mini marvel on its own – a mini series of episodes that, on their own, defy explanation, yet together present us with the most marvellous story ever told. The most inexplicable fact is that it is all true. He did die and rise again. He did take His followers through the whole gamut of emotions. He is alive today – just waiting for all of us to believe and put our trust and faith in Him.

I, for one, am just so grateful.
